Equipment/Instruments

The UW–Madison Catalysis Center is located on the 6th floor of the Chemistry Department (Rm 6309 and 6305) and houses a wide variety of equipment and instrumentation for performing and monitoring chemical reactions at elevated pressures.

In order to use the equipment and instruments you must first be trained by a Catalysis Center PA. The contact information can be found on the right.

Please also follow these guidelines:

We currently have these equipment and instruments for general use:

More information can be found on the User's Guide page.

Cylinder of H2

The gas cylinder of Hcan be used to fill balloons or pressure reactors.

HP ChemSCAN

This instrument has 8 wells that can be under different temperatures and pressures. It also has the ability for constant pressure gas up-take data to be obtained.

Cat24

We have 3 Cat24's in our inventory. Two are stainless steel and one is hastelloy. They are 24 well reaction vessels with condensers fitted to each well. The Cat24's are each on their own shaker for good gas/liquid mixing. These should primarily be used for screening.

100 mL parr vessel

This stainless steel parr vessel is is equipped with a heating mantel and a thermocouple to maintain a fixed temperature. It also can to be charged to a high as 2700 PSI.

ReactIR

We have two ReactIR instruments. One is fitted with a dip probe and one with probe fitting that can be attached to a Parr vessel for air sensitive chemistry.

Glovebox

A VAC DRI-TRAIN glove box is housed in the catalysis center to aid in air sensitive chemistry.
